House about that! Charity bingo night's a hit
A CHARITY bingo at night at Sandhead Primary School was, says headteacher Nicola Henry, "An excellent example of responsible citizens in our communities."
Here's a report on the event - staged before lockdown closed schools from Rhianna McQuillan, P7.
"In Primary 7 at Sandhead Primary, part of our school work is taking part in Medal Of Excellence. This is where we participate in different tasks and challenges to develop our skills and abilities towards gaining our medal at the end of Term 4.
"Myself and my friend Eva McLaughlin, 11, decided we would like to organise a joint bingo night to raise funds for our chosen charities.
"My chosen charity was Help For Heroes and Eva's was Diabetes UK. I chose Help For Heroes because I like the work that they do helping others in their time of need and my brother Callum currently serves in the British Army. Eva chose her charity because her Mum suffers from Diabetes.
"This took up a lot of our spare time after school with the help of our mums who took us round the local businesses in our local area asking for donations of prizes, working together with Eva to make and display the posters to advertise the bingo, writing letters to hand out to the businesses and organise the night.
"Our bingo night was successful, we raised a total of £507 to split between our chosen charities. This was a fantastic amount.
"We would like to thank the local businesses and people who donated prizes and money, Mrs Henry our headteacher for the loan of the school hall for free, Elizabeth our bingo caller and everyone who came to support us on the night!"
