Covid-19 tests: Methodology changes

THE way Covid-19 cases are recorded in Scotland has changed, now taking into account results from Government Regional Testing Centres (RTCs) and mobile testing units. However, the numbers have not yet been broken down by health board area. It is likely to be Wednesday before that happens. The Scottish Government said today that across the country as a whole, 29 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 had been confirmed, of which nine were from RTCs. A total of 210,959 people in Scotland have been tested through NHS Scotland labs and RTCs to date (of which 73,851 were first tested through the RTCs). Of these: 192,929 were confirmed negative (of which 71,508 were first found negative from an RTC test). 18,030 were positive (of which 2,343 were first found positive from an RTC test). The Scottish Government say: "This will be an underestimate of the number of cases. Not everyone with the virus will display symptoms and not all those with symptoms will be tested." Scotland-wide, of the people who have tested positive: 3,909 inpatients have been discharged from hospital since 5 March 578 were in hospital last night: 12 of whom were in intensive care; plus 6 more people in intensive care with suspected Covid-19 2,448 people have died The figures for Dumfries and Galloway will be updated later in the week. NHS D&G reported that at noon on June 10, the total number of positive Covid-19 cases within the region was 260. There have been 44 deaths in the region (either within a hospital setting or within the community) in which Coronavirus was either the primary cause of death or a factor potentially contributing to death. The total number of D&G hospital inpatients with Covid-19 who have since recovered is 92.
