Flags to fly to mark Armed Forces Week
IT'S Armed Forces Week from Monday to Sunday next week and the council has confirmed the appropriate flags will fly.
To mark the start of the week, Armed Forces Week flags will be raised at a number of prominent buildings across the region.
Councillor Archie Dryburgh, Armed Forces Champion, Dumfries and Galloway Council, said: The exceptional and challenging circumstances of the Covid-19 emergency mean that Armed Forces Week 2020 will be very different from previous years.
"Every year since 2009 we've paraded to show our appreciation for those who currently serve and who have served in our armed forces, and people have turned out across the region to show their support. But as we continue to be restricted due to Corona-19, It's important that we can still show our resolve and commitment to our service personnel, past and present.
"So, as holders of the Gold Award in the Employers' Recognition Scheme and as part of our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, on Monday, we'll raise flags around the region. During the rest of the week, we'll share a programme of events through the Council's Facebook page each day, finishing with a service on Saturday 27 June 2020."
