Big-hearted! Hearts fans chip in for Stranraer FC

David Templeton

IN A remarkable show of solidarity, fans of Heart of Midlothian FC are donating cash to Stranraer FC as both clubs have been relegated in controversial circumstances. Using the Donate a Ticket website – where fans have been donating the price of a brief to help clubs while football is suspended owing to Coronavirus – supporters of the Edinburgh club have been backing the Blues. It comes after Hearts said they would mount a legal challenge to their relegation after the season was scrapped early owing to Covid-19 restrictions. Stair Park chairman Iain Dougan made it plain the legal route was not one Stranraer could afford to consider. Now former Hearts player David Templeton has donated signed shirts to Amoruso Lets It Run, a Hearts YouTube video channel who are giving them away to fans who donate to Stranraer. Stranraer FC commented: "This is incredible!" Closing the leagues early ejected Hearts from the top flight while Stranraer – who had fancied their survival chances as many of the remaining games were home ties against opposition only just above them – have been forced into League Two when Scottish football resumes in August. It was a particularly cruel blow as the Stair Park club marks its 150th anniversary.
