Region's Covid-19 cases rise by five, says Scottish Government

Testing for Covid-19 in Stranraer

THE number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in Dumfries and Galloway rose by five overnight, according to official statistics. As Scotland went through its 100th day of lockdown, the Scottish Government said 290 people had now been confirmed as having Coronavirus in the region. The figure was put at 285 yesterday and over the weekend. The Free Press contacted NHS Dumfries and Galloway about the rise, but no statement has yet been issued. When the region's Covid-19 figure jumped by 10 last week, the NHS said it was the result of reporting issue at a testing laboratory. Even with today's rise, Dumfries and Galloway has the lowest infection figure of any mainland NHS board. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said today that three deaths have been confirmed in the last 24 hours - after four days without any deaths in Scotland. Those deaths took the total toll here to 2,485.
