Step up if you want to dance

Emma Jayne Park

THE floor is all yours if you'd like to play a part in shaping the future of dance in the region. Dance artist Emma Jayne Park and her team from Cultured Mongrel Dance Theatre are hoping to map out the future of dance in Dumfries and Galloway. Thanks to funding from the Holywood Trust and Creative Scotland, Gretna-born Emma Jayne and her team are developing a thriving contemporary dance sector. They say: "This long-term project aspires to bring together the brilliant activity that already happens across the region and create further opportunities to promote the region as a home for dance. "The team will be creating new opportunities for promoting the brilliant classes that already take place, creating opportunities for local artists to enhance their network and bringing professional touring companies to the region on a regular basis. "Dumfries and Galloway has some great facilities, inspirational outdoor spaces and offers a standard of living that creates the optimum conditions for dance makers to work amongst a community of artists across many forms. With its unique geography and needs, it is essential that the work delivered via this project is shaped by the community and for the community, especially in light of the restrictions on so many opportunities created by the Covid-19 pandemic." They are inviting anyone interested to attend one of two virtual consultation events to share thoughts, ideas and experience, and be part of shaping the future of dance in our region. This session will be held twice, to enable as many people as possible to participate: Thursday 6. August, 10.30-12.00 Monday 17. August, 17.30-19.00 Tickets for the consultations can be reserved in advance via https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dumfries-and-galloway-dance-…
