Drivers face delays as the A77 and A75 have closures and diversions this weekend

Warning sign: Outside Stranraer

HEADING up the A77 this weekend? The trunk road is shut for resurfacing work north of the existing works at Carlock Wall from 8pm tonight until 6am on Monday. Going north out of Stranraer, the suggested diversion is to drive along the A75 to Newton Stewart and to then take the A714 road via Barrhill to Girvan to rejoin the A77. Heading south for Stranraer, the suggested diversion is the reverse, leaving the A77 at Girvan. Officially, drivers are being told to add 40 minutes to their journey but with poor weekend weather forecast and questions over the suitability of the A714 for HGVs, many are sceptical about that timescale. There are already temporary lights on the A77 where extensive works are underway to prevent a landslip at Carlock Wall at the top of Glenapp. And from Monday, work on a bridge which carries the A77 over the Altimeg Burn at the foot of the glen will see a convoy system in operation. Meanwhile, there is a closure with diversions on the A75 east of Dumfries all weekend too.
