All well in search-and-rescue alert
Portpatrick lifeboat
A MAJOR search and rescue operation was launched off the Wigtownshire coast last night.
The Maritime and Coastguard agency told the Free Press a rigid-hulled inflatable boat was reported overdue.
"The original call came into us at just before 7.50pm last night about an overdue RHIB, with one person on board, out of East Tarbet Beach on the Mull of Galloway.
"Drummore, Ballatrae and Stranraer Coastguard Rescue Teams went along with the independent lifeboat from Port William and the Portpatrick RNLI lifeboat.
"Our HM Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick was also sent.
The RHIB got back safely under its own power in the end and all was well."
