Sparling bridge gets some work done

The Sparling bridge

IT'S the key link over the Cree between Newton Stewart and Minnigaff but the Sparling Bridge needs some maintenance work. Dumfries and Galloway Council say: "The bridge needs a wee bit of work to keep it in tip-top shape. "Inspection work will take place tomorrow – the bridge will remain open. "From the week commencing 17 August, the bridge will be closed so work can be completed." The add add the closure will be for a maximum of five days. The bridge was installed in an inch-perfect operation last October. Transported via the A75, the compete structure was craned into position. The new bridge replaced one removed in November 2016 following severe flooding, which inundated Newton Stewart. The bridge is named for a rare fish which is found only in the Cree, Forth and Tay rivers.
