VJ Day is commemorated but most miss out on a glimpse of the Red Arrows
Cloud affected the Red Arrows
T HAD been hoped the Red Arrows would be visible in the skies over West Wigtownshire as they transited the North Channel for a fly-past in Belfast to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two, but it wasn't to be.
Sadly, much of the Arrows' itinerary was cancelled owing to unsafe weather conditions. Fly-pasts over Edinburgh and Cardiff were scrubbed and the Arrows' flightpath meant they were not visible to many Wigtownshire watchers who had gathered to look on.
The RAF's official aerobatics display teamed warned this morning that their schedule was liable to change owing to the weather.
They landed at Prestwick Airport where they refuelled and then headed south-west along the Ayrshire coast before passing the Rhins too far away for many, though a lucky few did catch a glimpse.
Across the country, commemorations have been held to mark VJ Day 75.
The surrender of the Imperial Japanese - who plunged into the war with a muderdous sneak attack on Pearl Harbor and whose forces garnered a reputation for sadism on August 15, 1945 brought the Second World to a close, Hitler's Nazi regime having capitulated on May 8, that year.
