Workers fall silent in tribute to train crash victims
THIS was the scene at Stranraer station this morning as rail staff working on the signal box marked a minute's silence to honour the victims of the Stonehaven rail crash.
The silence was honoured at railway stations across the UK.
Driver Brett McCullough, 45, conductor Donald Dinnie, 58, and passenger Christopher Stuchbury, 62, died near Stonehaven when a train left the tracks and plunged down a bridge embankment in atrocious weather conditions which unleashed landslips. Six other passengers were also hurt.
Stations fell silent at 09:43 - the time the crash was reported last Wednesday.
Alex Hynes, managing director of Scotland's Railway, said: "Our hearts remain broken and will do for a long time.
"We hope that by coming together as a railway family, along with the local community and people across the country, we can support one another through this horrendous time."
UK Transport Minister Grant Shapps has instructed Network Rail to produce an interim report into the incident by September 1.
